Beechworth has a way of holding onto its history. Original details, period proportions and the quirks of older buildings all form part of what makes designing here so interesting.
Britt White Studio works across the Beechworth area on residential, holiday and commercial projects, creating interiors that respect what is already there while making room for contemporary life. Sometimes that means working quietly with the existing architecture. Other times, it means introducing colour, materiality and personality in ways that give an old building an entirely new energy.
Older buildings come with history, character and often a few surprises. We see those quirks as part of the opportunity, not something to design around or erase.
Our approach is to understand what gives the building its identity, then work out where to preserve, where to adapt and where a more contemporary intervention can add something genuinely new. That might mean retaining original proportions and details, introducing new materials alongside old ones or using colour and pattern to create contrast rather than imitation.
The aim is never to make an old building feel new. It’s to make it feel relevant, personal and ready for the next chapter.
