ALPINE GUM
A SMART APPROACH TO A HIGH COUNTRY HOLIDAY HOME.
Interior design, furniture and artwork curation.
Perched among the gum trees overlooking Bright, Alpine Gum is a holiday home reimagined with a clear commercial purpose and an equally important personal one. For its owners, the ambition was to create a more appealing and competitive short term rental property, while ensuring the home remained somewhere they would genuinely enjoy spending time themselves.
Britt White Studio approached the project with a focus on value, identifying where considered design interventions could make the greatest difference. Rather than pursuing a complete renovation, existing elements were retained and repurposed where appropriate, allowing the investment to be directed towards improvements that would enhance the property's functionality, comfort and overall guest experience.
The design responds to the expectations of modern holiday living. Spaces to gather, unwind or work remotely were thoughtfully considered, with improved lighting, practical furnishings and purposeful layouts ensuring the home performs as well as it looks. An underused area became an inviting reading retreat, while the dining room was refreshed through the clever reuse of its existing timber tabletop, paired with contemporary furniture and architectural lighting.
Colour and artwork bring a distinctive personality to the interiors. Building on the home's existing collection, BWS introduced works by emerging Australian artists, including a commissioned artwork by Indigenous artist Taneesha Walklate and vibrant pieces from Winding Road Designs. References to the Australian landscape, botanical forms and geometric patterns create a playful visual language that connects the interiors to their High Country surroundings.
Each bedroom has its own colour identity, expressed through artwork, textiles and carefully curated furnishings. Across the home, warm timber, natural textures and a recurring use of black provide balance and continuity, allowing the more expressive elements to take centre stage.
The result is a welcoming, characterful holiday home shaped by commercial understanding and thoughtful design. Through selective investment, local expertise and a clear sense of what makes a contemporary holiday property work, Alpine Gum offers a more engaging experience for guests and a rewarding retreat for its owners.

“We wanted the practice to feel welcoming and comfortable for everyone, while making it easier for our team to do what they do every day. Plus…it’s purple!”
